Positive Resist PCB's
Kinsten manufacture the positive resist coated printed circuit board (PCB) for many prototyping, educational and low volume applications. Even some high volume applications have used Kinsten PCB to keep the full process secure and in-house.
We only supply Kinsten PCB manufactured in Taiwan due to photo-resist quality issues with China manufactured PCB. Some PCB will be supplied in plain (unprinted) foil packs to comply with changes in China import regulations.
Kinsten PCB chemicals
Kinsten provide a range of chemicals for processing Kinsten PCBs. The chemicals are supplied in pre-measured packet to reduce wastage.
One sachet of DP-50 developer is mixed with 1 litre of 25°C water. If using an ET10 tank, two EB-750 packs are required for a fill, and three EB-750 packs are required for an ET20 tank fill.
The neutralising kits make disposal of the used chemicals easier as the resultant chemicals are much safer for handling.
When producing artwork for making PCB's, some materials produce better results than others.
Overhead transparency sheets usually produce very poor results, as they cannot aggregate the ink or toner density enough to produce high contrast. Some materials are not UV transparent, and are also unsuitable for using as PCB artwork.
Using a suitable base media with an inkjet or laser printer, good results can be obtained.
Polyester artwork base is suitable for use in most inkjet and laser printers. It is capable higher resolution than paper. and is resistant to water. Polyester artwork base minimum resolution is 0.1mm lines with a 0.2mm gap between lines, subject to printer capability. It is recommended that exposure time is increased by 20~30%. Currently available in A4 size supplied in bags of 10 sheets. A5 & A3 will become available in the future.
Paper artwork base is a low cost alternative. It is not recommended for inkjet printers, and the resolution is lower than polyester. Paper artwork base minimum resolution is 0.15mm lines with a 0.25mm gap between lines, subject to printer capability. It is most suitable for single use, with a laser printer. It is currently available in A4 size supplied in bags of 10 sheets.
Bubble Etching Tank
Kinsten etch tanks are available in two sizes, in a thin vertical format to allow minimum chemical usage.
They include a thermometer and clips to suspend the PCB in the liquid etchant.
ET-KIT's includes the tank (w/ 3 clips and thermometer). Air pumps and heaters are available to enhance etching performance.
The air pump allows the etchant to be bubble agitated, and the heater brings the etchant to the optimum temperature, speeding the etching process. It is recommended that the pump be supported at a position higher than the liquid level to prevent siphoning if the pump is switched off.
Carbide Drill bits
A Carbide Drill Bit (CDB) is harder and will stay sharper for longer than HSS (High Speed Steel) drill bits. With the hardness, comes a brittleness, and they require to be treated with more care. They should not be dropped, they are likely to shatter, and they are generally not suitable for hand drills, as any flexing will cause the bit to break. Carbide drill bits should be used with a sturdy drill press. Safety goggles and face mask should be worn at all times when drilling.
The Carbide Drill Bits supplied by Kinsten come with the standard 1/8" shank to suit many drill presses and automatic drilling machines.
Kynar covered wire is popular for connecting terminals, wire-wrapping, breadboarding and making circuit modifications. It is available in a variety of colours and reel lengths. The wire diameter is 30AWG (0.25mm).
We supply two types of Kynar wire, high quality Taiwan made wire in 100ft reels, and economical Chinese made wire in 1000ft reels.
UV Exposure Box
The Kinsten UV exposure box has a maximum exposure area 230 x 380mm. It includes digital timer & vacuum table.
The peak wavelength of the UV lamps is 350~400µm.
The standard UV exposure box has 3 UV tubes per side, and high intensity versions with 4 or 5 UV tubes per side.
While the Kinsten UV exposure box has been designed for use with Kinsten PCB, it has been used for other applications including label making and rubber stamp production
The Kinsten PCB cutter can cut up to 2mm thick PCB with a maximum cutting width of 310mm. Performs a clean cut and easy to use.
While hacksawing and 'score and snap' can be used, Kinsten PCB shears allows a straight cut in a single operation and is the recommended method to cut both paper phenolic and fibreglass PCBs.
Alternate UV Exposure Method
Not everybody has the need for a full double sided light box. If you have a smaller PCB requirement this may suit you. We have located an alternate UV source, with our testing showing excellent results.
After trying several different models, this gave the best results. It has a 120 second timer, most importantly it has a slide out base (most models don't) and the UV is in the correct frequency range and intensity. It is suitable up to a maximum of 150×150mm exposure area.
To use, slide out the removable section of the base, then lay the presensitised PCB on a flat surface (presensitised layer up), then layer the artwork, and a thin sheet of clear acrylic (not supplied) to press them together. Place the UV box over the area to be exposed and start the timing sequence. If the 120 second exposure is incorrect for your application, it can be manually timed.
International Economy Small Parcel Post
Small parcel post can be used when delivery time is not critical, with the lowest possible price.
Delivery time can vary from 7 days to 60 days, but usually is delivered within 30 days.
Where available, EMS delivery is generally 3 to 7 days, but some countries will take longer due to incoming customs delays. Tracking is available for all EMS deliveries.
Country & Region Options
Please ensure you select the correct shipping region when options are available. Selecting the wrong region may delay or cancel the order.
There are some countries we cannot accept orders from, due to commercial restrictions. We also may require proof of credit card ownership, or will require an alternative payment method such as Western Union. This is no reflection on any individual, but as a response to previous issues, and reports from certain regions.
Some equipment is supplied with different mains voltage options. Please make sure that you choose the appropriate voltage for the location where the equipment will be used.
Prices do not include any clearance fees, landing fees, duty, taxes or other charges payable in the destination country. If documentation other than the commercial invoice (example - import permit or consular certification) is required, additional charges will apply.
It is not possible or reasonable for Kinsten or its employees to be aware of any restrictions or regulations on importing items in to any country or region. It is solely the buyers responsibility and cost to ensure items are able to be imported into their selected destination country. All items are despatched at the buyers risk.
All prices are in Australian dollars (A$), unless otherwise noted. The final charge in your local currency will be dependant on the exchange rate used by the transferring financial institutions and fees they charge. The Universal Currency Converter may be able to give a guide to the current exchange rate.
As a rough guide buy price in US$ = A$ × 0.95 (September 2014).
If you wish to pay in an alternative currency, we can accept PayPal payments.
The payable amount will be equivalent to the A$ price + 5%.
Where weight limits allow, we offer quantity prices.
Use quantity prices to save money per unit or quantity buy and resell individually on eBay, Gumtree or other e-commerce site.
Check local regulations regarding resale. Usually, it is OK to buy products for personal use but resellers need to check if there are restrictions. The most common products that might be restricted are products that are mains powered, or have registered/trademarked names.
We can offer most products in bulk at ex factory rates. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your requirements for a quotation.
